Great Smoky Mountains – Day 3

Travel day today, left Gatlinburg this morning, went through the park stopping at Clingmans Dome which was closed for road work the first two days we were there. Easy 0.5 mile walk up to a lookout of the surrounding area.

After driving to the south side of the park did a quick hike to the Tom Branch and Indian Creek waterfalls. Drove a couple hours to Asheville, where we had a late lunch at a bbq ribs place. Seems this place is popular because Obama visited when he was president. Lots of good reviews but we found the ribs average at best. Sauce and ribs were tasty but ribs were dried out.

We planned to catch sunset at an out of the way, open air outdoor chapel (the Pretty Place) an hour away in SC but unfortunately traffic was bad and we would’ve missed sunset so we turned around. If we ever come back to this part of the country, we’ll try again since the pictures online are spectacular.
